2018 has arrived! So what now?

We're only a month into it and I'm already running behind. I almost got out of Juneuary without writing a single post here. But since you're reading a new post that I wrote and published before February 1, I stand corrected.

First, what did I mean by "Juneuary" in the first paragraph? As usual, I was poking fun at something; this time, the fact that there were an awful lot of warmer than usual days this month (known as "January" by most people). In one of my recent Facebook status updates, I brought this up. Since I bring up my blog on Facebook, why not bring up Facebook in my blog. Turnabout is fair play.

Each time a new year begins, I spend some time wondering what will happen during the year to come. Recently I was thinking about the fact that I haven't even left the state of California since 2008. Ten years. And it's been that long since I set foot on a plane. It's time for me to go somewhere. As to where, I'm open. Sad to say, I'm not well traveled. At the ripe old age of 58, I've been to all but 43 states. Having lived less than half of the time that I have, Diana's been to more countries than I have states. At one time we could visit Mexico or Canada without a passport, but those days are behind us. I've been to Tijuana a few times, but it's been 25 years since my last visit there, and now I need a passport. In fact, I'm the only person in my family to not have one. If something came up where I needed to go to Canada (to visit my nephew and his family) or elsewhere, I'd have to apply and wait for my passport to come in the mail. Applicants can pay a fee to expedite their passport, but I'd rather not have it come down to that. I don't have a serious case of wanderlust, do I?

Traveling isn't my only concern. Diabetes, asthma...old news. But they're beginning to wear me down. I spend more time trying to rest up so I can keep going the same distance I could without any need for rest. As I always say, all I can do is the best I can do. That is to just keep going for as long as I can. And I aim to try.

Happy 2018 to both of my readers and anyone else who stumbles upon my planet. Welcome back to another year of sporadic blog posts here. Maybe something will happen and I'll actually get a few more posts written this year.
